This was a question a professor once asked in college on the first day of class (his phrasing was “something unique not related to your major, I don’t care about that”). It was very disappointing, because college students are not unique. Consequently, I thought that was a great question.
What is unique about you from every other Oppo?

As copied from an old post.
“Well, we were having a Nerf battle, and I got shot from four feet away in the eye. Noticed a squiggly thing in my vision, didn’t think much of it.
Then I woke up in the night and notice a large black spot that couldn’t be accounted for by the fact that it was night. Turned the light on, the squiggly was in the spot. So I Googled the issue and saw that I had a tear in my retina. I did the only logical thing, which was delay my trip to the hospital until six hours late (twelve hours after the experience), until one of my professors yelled at me to go to the hospital since I had told her what had happened. I grabbed my buddy because going to the hospital alone sucks, and we bused out.
Four mistaken buildings later, we got to the hospital, and spent about four hours there until it was confirmed that I had a tear in my retina that could possibly lead to retinal detachment and make me blind in that eye. An appointment was set up for the next morning, I called my parents to let them know what happened, and then I went home to tell my roommates. The mood was less than great. I was in decent spirits, but everyone else was kind of freaked out.
The next morning we went to the hospital, and I was taken into another room, where they told me I would have to undergo surgery. I asked when it would be, because my health card expired the next day, which was also my nineteenth birthday, and he said that surgery was in five minutes. Surgery consisted of them freezing my eye and shooting into it with a laser until everything was decent.
My eye still bothers me today, but hey, at least I’m not blind. I was later told that if it had been in a slightly different spot, I could have gone blind in an hour and a half.
Tl;dr: I got shot in the eye by a Nerf gun and got a tear in my retina, which they fixed with lasers or else I would have gone blind, all within the three days before my health card expired and I turned nineteen.
(The long version of this story is a lot longer. There are more jokes and tangents in that one. Too lazy to type it out.)“

I’ve been told I have a healing factor like wolverine, when it comes to cuts. Multiple times I’ve cut myself bad enough people say to go to the ER, and not the kind of people who say that for everything, I just hold pressure until the bleeding slows enough to put a bandage on it, sometimes hours, and 1-2 days later it’s nothing, but a small scar.
Also I graduated HS with over 20 of college credit, but didn’t go to college for years.

I’ve lived many lives and died many deaths. Who I am today isn’t who I was yesterday nor who I will be tomorrow. I’ve experienced the brightest joys and the darkest sorrows but have been phased by neither.
There isn’t anything I can’t do but there are lots of things I choose not to do. Having said that I dont have a valid reason for doing or not doing any of it.
My greatest triumphs have passed silently unnoticed but my slightest failures get praded in the streets. I can hid from my accomplishments but not my failures, at the same time I’m not ashamed of either.
Also I have webbed toes.

Thanks! Being older? I’m not sure, really.
I think I’m pretty laid back, generally, but probably would have been that way 20 years ago, too - maybe more so?
Funny thing is that my wife and I are paranoid about completely different things. I worry about him falling - we have hardwood floors everywhere, and a fireplace with sharp corners and other hazards. I also insisted on him getting his own seat on airplanes, that sort of thing. My wife doesn’t worry about that stuff - she worries about nutrition, food additives, sugar, how many blankets to cover him with, etc.
There’s little overlap in the things the two of us worry about, oddly.

That is tempting, believe me. I just have to keep reminding myself that overprotective parenting isn’t good for him, and he needs to learn from his own mistakes.
My own parents were really good about trusting me and letting me screw up, and it’s nice having them around (and my brother) to remind me of that.
What freaks me out is being responsible for another person who absolutely needs me. 45 years of not giving a rats ass about anyone else got me pretty comfortable. Tough habit to break.

Well, I didn’t graduate at 18 - even though it was an associate’s degree program, scheduling classes around each other (and the college’s terrible scheduling of which classes were available in each quarter) meant that I didn’t finish it up until a year after graduating high school.
However, during my senior year of high school, I was basically just one of the sysadmins and the computer tech for the high school, I didn’t actually take any high school classes. And, during my last quarter of my associate’s degree, I realized that I didn’t want to be a code monkey, and that I rather liked the sysadmin and desktop support work that I was doing, so I just kept doing that. Eventually I left, and now I’m just doing desktop support.

Impressive. I work for a defense contractor, so I’m always sending emails to people on the .gov side. I’ve seen quite a few strange/complicated names with a middle initial added or number appended that I never would’ve thought there was more than one of.

For example: just finished a brakestand or two with the straight piped Crown Vic, I’m two blocks away from the spot and there’s a cop sitting in the traffic at the red light ahead of me. I thought for sure I was gonna get popped for either the smokeshow or the exhaust, but he pulled over the kid ahead of him in the stock Corolla instead.

I can picture having seen someone play the saw on TV. I know it exists, but somehow before you mentioned it, I forgot all about it.

One time I passed a cop doing 85. He pulled out behind me and I changed to the next lane. He continued on and pulled over the M3 in front of me.
